Randy Pausch, the professor at Carnegie Mellon University who inspired countless students in the classroom and others worldwide through his highly acclaimed last lecture, has died of complications from pancreatic cancer. He was 47.
Randy がThe Last Lecture を行った2007年9月18日の時点で、余命は3ヶ月～半年とされていたし、彼のサイトではその闘病の様子も時折アップされていた。このThe Last Lceture はランダムハウス講談社からDVD付き本として翻訳出版されている。

まだ、見ていない方は、ぜひYouTube でいいので、ご覧になってほしいと思う。アメリカ人というのは、不思議なもので、勘弁してほしい、という側面を見せるかと思えば、なぜそこまでpositive に振る舞えるのか、と感じさせることもある。wit とjoke を織り交ぜながら、あくまでpositive に語る姿勢は、Lecture の最初の言葉に集約されている。
We can't change it, and we just have to decide
how we’re going to respond to that.
We cannot change the cards we are dealt,
just how we play the hand.
観客を笑わせ、引き込み、語る最後にRandy が用意していたのは、次の言葉だった。
So today's talk was about my childhood dreams,
enabling the dreams of others, and some lessons learned.
But did you figure out the head fake?

It's not about how to achieve your dreams.
It's about how to lead your life.
If you lead your life the right way,
the karma will take care of itself.
The dreams will come to you.
